PRESS RELEASE
POLITICAL THUGS ATTACK DR.ALEX OTTIS”S CONVOY
MARCH 9 , UMUAHIA ABIA - Today at about 12.15pm at Ama Ndoro  Village  political thugs acting on the instructions of the agents  of  the ruling PDP attacked the campaign team  of APGA Gubernatorial candidate Dr Alex Otti  at a town hall  meeting in Ikwuano Umuahia LGA Abia.
Firing gun shots and and brandishing machetes ,  knives  and other dangerous weapons  the thugs descended on the venue and succeeded  in damaging several vehicles including a Pathfinder 2007 model belonging  to Mr. Ikenga  Director of Welfare / Protocol in the Alex Otto  Campaign Organization.
Those present include His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, His wife Lady Pricillia, Dr.Otti’s Running Mate Dr.Uche Eme Uche, Director General Dr Alex Otti Campaign Organization Mr. Tony Enwenreozor, Chief Uche Okogbuo Zonal Chairman South East APGA and other party big wigs.
An eyewitness account by  Emmanuel Okpechi  ( 08036920914 ) LGA Chairman for Abia Movement for Better  Governance ( AMBG ) one of the hundreds of self funded Alex Otti Pro Support groups  confirmed the incident .According to him :
“ PDP thugs led by one Mr.Wisdom Ogbonna whose wife is the deputy Transition Committee chairman  for Ikwuano LGA  led and coordinated the attacks. In the dead of night PDP members went to our  venue and erected canopies .By the time we arrived in the morning they had taken over the venue. They were armed with all kinds of dangerous weapons .We  had to  relocate to an open square opposite old NEPA office. They dismantled our canopies in the morning and we had to set them up again. By the time the event started they attacked us “.
Dr.Otti urged his thousands of teeming supporters to exercise restraint in the face of continued provocation. Speaking exclusively at the state police command where he lodged complaints Dr.Otti stated :
“This cowardly attack is yet another manifestation of the antics of a defeated army in cowardly retreat. No degree of cowardly attacks will stop the transformation of Abia state which has already commenced. The spiritual and psychological emancipations of the people has started, the physical liberation will commence on May 29.2015.I urge all Abians to use their PVC‘s to expel brigandage from God’s own state “
It is instructive to note that Dr.Otti demonstrated uncommon courage ,wisdom and determination. He restrained his followers numbering in their thousands from retaliating thereby averting bloodshed. Unfortunately the TA Orji led government has not demonstrated the same level of maturity and wisdom.
It will be recalled  that barely one week ago Governor TA Orji was pelted with pure water sachets at the burial of the late Catholic Bishop Bishop Eze Onyia .Following his retreat from Aba , PDP thugs ran into Dr.Alex Otti’s women supporters and physically assaulted them….to the point of almost blinding one of them.
It is also interesting to note that a day to the hosting of a town hall meeting in Umuahia North, the coordinator  popularly called Abacha Ibeku was arrested on spurious charges by men of the Abia state division of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA .
There has been an entrenched culture of brigandage and exclusion of the opposition in Abia politics.Dr Ottis posters, handbills and expensive billboards have been defaced and / or vandalized.Eyewitness accounts also confirm that the [policemen present appeared to have been drafted to protect the onslaught of the PDP  thugs rather than maintain peace , law and order.
Nobody has been prosecuted .It is also a fact that the state broadcaster Broadcasting Corporation of Abia state has REFUSED to accept paid commercials from the Alex Otti Campaign Organisation.Over eighty per cent of the  air time is devoted  to coverage of PDP Candidate Dr.Victor Okezie Ikpeazu .Alex Otti Campaign Organization insists that the 2015 elections must not only be free and fair but must be seen to be free and fair.Dr.Otti calls on all youths not to allow them to be used as cannon fodder in the political warfare.
